Meet the Morrisons

Well, I have convinced my sister, Amy to join the World of Blog. She is the first of my family to have a blog that I know of. I have some cousins that would be very good at it (Joel, Kristin, Lisa, John). They are great writers and photographers, and Kristin and Joel are hilarious - anyway! I introduced you to my friends in an earlier post, so let me tell you about my sister.

The Morrisons: Amy is 3 years younger than me, and we grew up arguing just like normal siblings do. When I went to college we grew closer, and now we are great friends. She married Adam three years ago and now they have a 9 month old daughter, Taylor! Taylor is sick right now. Today they took her to the doctor and found out she has Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease. So they have to just wait out the fever and rash with Tylenol and Motrin. Amy said that Miss Taylor is being quite a sport and now that her fever is down, she is checking out her hands. Check them out when you get a chance. You can keep up with them by checking my blog list on the right.

Crib vs Bed

Well, I thought I would let you in on my battle between the crib and bed. My cousin, Lisa, puts her kids in beds when they turn one, so I thought that is what I should do. Well, when Caedyn turned one we lived with my parents and her “room” was the office with floor to ceiling bookshelves, so that was not an option. It would have been nice to have her in a bed when Eli was born, but we were also moving and I thought that would be just too much transition for one little girl – she just loves her crib. Well, now she will be sleeping on a cot for nap at daycare, so I thought that I would try her in the bed for her naps. She and Eli have twin beds in their rooms, so all I needed was a bedrail. (Those beds are high.) I am a little afraid to put Miss Caedyn in the bed for the night because she might get up and wander. I will keep you updated on how it is going.

Productive Day!

Today has been pretty productive. Caedyn and I had waffles for breakfast, and she matched me two for two! Of course she got syrup all in her hair, so her hair was sticking straight up! Check out this picture!

Last night I got a bedrail for Caedyn, and I finally found a shower curtain that I like for the kids’ bathroom. So this morning Caedyn and I put up the shower curtain while we waited on Eli to wake up. I wanted to bathe her so she wouldn’t smell like syrup, but I knew with my luck I would get her in the tub and he would wake up. She took a dry bath while I put the curtain up. Here is a video of her doing her new trick. She makes this weird face and then shakes all over – it is so funny. She does it when she gets excited or scared/surprised.

I don’t understand why bedrails don’t come already assembled. After we got the shower curtain up, we went to Caedyn’s room. It was pretty funny. I put Eli in Caedyn’s crib so he could watch us. Caedyn unloaded her books and her stuffed animals while I dressed her bed with a plastic mattress cover, quilted mattress pad and fitted sheet. Then I opened the bedrail box and poles landed on my foot – OUCH! I have an egg on my foot now. We spent a good hour getting her bed ready. Then it was time for her nap and Eli’s bottle. She went right down in her big girl bed. She slept until there was a big crash from the bathroom. The Frog Pod fell. Here is a picture of her when she woke up. Too cute!

Well after lunch, Caedyn had to take a bath. While she was playing I got the brilliant idea of bathing Eli in the tub with her. I don’t know exactly what I was thinking other than that Eli could really use a bath too. He is sitting pretty well with support, but not so well in a big tub. He wanted to kick and his hiney was sliding everywhere. Then Caedyn spotted his boy parts and wanted to poke him. So Eli got in the tub, but not really bathed. So much for that idea! Maybe we will try again in a couple of months.

After dressing Eli, I chased Caedyn around so she could try on different outfits for her pictures. I think I finally have her two outfits picked out. I have one for Eli, and I need to pick one more. So, all in all I think I have had a pretty productive day!

Playtime

Yesterday I got some cute video of Caedyn playing. Tuesday night I bought her some ABC letters and numbers for the bathtub. Well, she found them right away and had them all over the house. She LOVES letters. Her favorite books are her ABC books and her first song was the ABC song. This first video is of her singing part of the ABC song and then picking out letters for me. Too cute!

This next video is of her dancing. We have to have the music on several times a day so we can dance and sing. She loves the Wee Sing CD’s and Books-a-Million has them for $4 each, so we almost have the complete collection. Of course in the van we have to listen to the Fisher Price ABC CD. She requests it by name.

Finally this is a picture of her first ponytail. She won't let me do her hair unless she is engrossed in something else, so this was a QUICK ponytail. She actually left it in for a little while. It is already time to get her next haircut, and I can't decide if I should get her haircut first or her pictures taken first. I would love to get their pics done this weekend, but I am not sure that I will be able to get the haircut in before the pictures. Oh well, we will see.

Support McCarthy Teszler School!

Sarah is a wonderful friend of mine from Winthrop. We were RA's together for two and a half years, and she has asked me to support her school. She teaches at McCarthy Teszler School, a school for special needs students. They entered the LOTS 2 GIVE contest at biglots.com and were selected as one of the top 100 videos. They are hoping to win the $10,000 grand prize to help build a natural outdoor classroom and play area for their special student population.

You can help Sarah's school win by voting for the McCarthy Teszler School video entry. You can vote three times per day until July 22. It only takes a minute and you can vote three times back to back.

To Vote:
1. Go to: http://www.biglots.com/
2. At the very bottom of the page click on the LOTS 2 GIVE banner with the cute butterfly. (OR click here and then continue with #3)
3. In the search box at the top of the bright blue section enter the zip code 29301. The video for McCarthy Teszler School will come up. You don't have to watch it to vote, but it is really cute!
4. Finally hit the Vote For This School button. It will count down how many votes you have left.

Please vote three times a day each day you can remember. I will try to remind you if you visit my blog between now and then. If you notice the link to Sarah's classroom page, she goes by Patrice. There are only a few of us that know her as Sarah - just in case you were confused!

Tuesday Tidbits

So I think I will use this title again since it is Tuesday again. Here's what's on my mind.

1. We found daycare for the fall! I am excited because they do sign language in the infant room and up. So that way people will understand Caedyn when she refuses to "say" sorry, she is signing sorry! It is the Sunshine House about 5 minutes from the house and in the same direction of my new school. I feel really good about it and really that is what matters.

2. Eli is not a good napper. He rarely sleeps for more than 40 minutes at a time. Then he gets so mad because he is tired. He sleeps really well at night and has since he was 9 weeks old. He pretty much sleeps through the night depending on when he had his last bottle. If he has a bottle at 4:00 and falls asleep before 8:00, then he is usually up between midnight and 2:00 am, but we try not to let that happen too often. Last night he ate at 6:00, and didn't wake up to eat again until 5:00. Then he slept until 7:30. Both of our kids sleep really well at night, so we are lucky there!

3. Caedyn is "saying" I Love You! She has been doing her own variation of the sign, but today when Gary left for work, she shouted "I love you" as she signed it!

4. The potty training is going nowhere. She was so interested and then of course when I become interested, she won't use the potty. She will sit on it, but nothing happens! I guess next summer I will be doing this all over again. In fact I will probably be potty training someone for the next couple of summers. Fun!

5. I wore my pj's all day yesterday, but I did dress both kids. I was exhausted last night. Eli was very needy yesterday.

6. I am loving "The Bachelorette." I am not sure how I got hooked, but I think I have seen every episode. I can't believe she got rid of Graham!

7. Caedyn loves the computer. She plays the infant games on the Fisher Price site and she plays Elmo's Potty Time game on the Sesame Street site. These are all great because all she has to do is press any button. While she is on the computer I can usually get the dishes done.

8. When Caedyn is eating, she likes to offer her food to anyone. If she hears the birds outside, she asks the birds if they want to eat. She asks Eli if he wants to eat, rabbits and dogs, pesky flies, ..., anything.

9. What is the lifespan of a fly? I swear we have had the same fly in our house for a week. If I open the blinds in the morning it comes out to greet us then disappears for a couple of hours. Caedyn will grab a magazine and walk around the house with me to look for it saying, "Where'd it go?"

10. Last Thursday and Friday I was at a training with my new school, and I met some of the teachers. They were great. I am really excited about starting school now. But I counted the weeks left, and I am also a little sad about not being at home with the kids. I still believe that I could never be a stay-at-home mom, but I have had a lot of fun with the kids already this summer. I am glad I can look forward to this every summer.
